Hide Race

A rodeo event that requires a safety helmet? Yes. This fast-paced event is fun-filled with a lively, quick action of switching riders.

It starts with the horse rider behind a chalk line, ready to pull another rider laying flat on a hide. Once an alarm sounds, the rider is off to the next designated chalked line, where the hide rider turns loose, and another rider hops on the hide. The horse rider then races to the finish line. The winner with the best time wins.

This exciting event is a tradition at West of the Pecos Rodeo during the Thursday night performance. You’ve gotta check it out!
