PRCA Rodeo & Slack

West of the Pecos Rodeo is the world's oldest rodeo and honors both PRCA card and PRCA permit holders. (Contestants compete under permit status until they win a minimum of $1,000 dollars at PRCA rodeos, which then earns them a PRCA card.)

We’re recognized as having kick-started the careers of several PRCA cowboys who went on to legend status, and we’re proud to have hosted many top rodeo cowboys over the years, including big-name professionals like Trevor Brazille.

At the nightly West of the Pecos Rodeo performances, audiences will watch cowboys who are ranked at the top of their events from slack. PRCA-sanctioned rodeo performances include bull riding, steer wrestling, bareback riding, team roping, saddle bronc riding, and tie-down roping, in addition to women’s WPRA-sanctioned barrel racing.

At the nightly West of the Pecos Rodeo performances, audiences will see cowboys ranked at the top of their events from slack. When a contestant is top ranked in their category, they perform in the nightly performances. In barrel racing, ladies compete in the Cloverleaf Classic and Open 4D. Top runners in each D return for the Friday night performance to win additional monies.

The stock contractor for West of the Pecos Rodeo is the award-winning Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, which has a long-standing reputation for having the best stock in the business. Having great stock means our audience is sure to witness some of the best match-ups in rodeo and possibly see history in the making!

All rodeo events are held in the Buck Jackson Arena.

Rodeo Slack

Slack events showcase our overflow of contestants. Because we are limited to four performances and a short-go with approximately ten contestants per event in each performance, slack events provide an additional three full go-arounds in timed events including calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling.

Slack contestants compete for the fastest time in each round for a piece of the prize money. Those with an average time ranking in the top 10 of all runs, including those from the PRCA performances, will qualify to compete in the PRCA finals!

Rodeo fans: If you want to see all the performers, you can get a sneak peak when you attend slack, which is open to the public.
